Sermon: Foolish Child
This year's Homecoming service features lessons from the Holy Scripture, Holy Communion, an anthem by our Adult Choir, sacred music, a chat with our children, and a message about an old and foolish question. A covered dish luncheon follows in the picnic shelter or if raining, in the fellowship hall.

Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
We have heard your warning, Father. The declarations of your law are not lost on us. Your Commandments remind us of your expectations and our failure to meet them. Yet, we have also heard your gospel, Lord, that you forgive us our sins for Christ’s sake. So, we are grateful this Lord’s Day for your word of warning that drives us to your grace. By your mercy, may we never forget either your law or your gospel, so that we may be responsive to your Spirit. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Help us to not hide from you, God. You search us out; we cannot flee from your presence. So, we would acknowledge our sin, and confess our transgressions to you. For you are a forgiving Father and a refuge from trouble, delivering us from sin, death, and the devil. Give us the courage and the trust to confess our sins every day. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
You are our God. You call us to love you with all our heart and mind and strength. You also command us to love and care for our neighbor as much as we do ourselves. Make us mindful of our neighbors, even those here in these pews. Give us the spirit to fulfill your law by loving one another. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We would be like little children, heavenly Father, but we keep getting big heads. Youthen us, Lord, by giving us hearts for the children of your church. Give us hearts for them by making us like them. Make us like them by strengthening our trust in you. Just so, help all those who are struggling with health, finances, family, neighbors, work, and even death, to trust you, Father. For you are our ever-present help in times of trouble and your salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Visitor Info
Though we livestream our services, we invite you to join us for an in-person service if you live in the area or are passing though. St. Paul's features traditional worship and a message grounded in the Scriptures and guided by the Lutheran Confessions — all in a friendly, multigenerational environment. Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday.
Please notice that we welcome and encourage children to worship with us. Just before the sermon, Pastor Ryman has a chat with the children. You're going to love this part of the service.
